Happy November and National Day of Listening from All of Us at Ridge Zeller Therapy to You!
Posted May 22, 2016
November brings Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving, but did you know that November 27th is the National Day of Listening? This month can be a great opportunity to give thanks for our families and veterans, and to engage with, and really listen to our friends and family.
The National Day of Listening is sponsored by NPR’s StoryCorps. StoryCorps is a remarkable project in which people from around the United States briefly interview friends or loved ones about their lives. These interviews are recorded in booths stationed in our communities (or you can do it at home using their new app) and stored at the Library of Congress, creating an invaluable archive of stories for future generations. StoryCorps purpose is to “remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters.”
Everyone can participate! StoryCorps Mobile Tour will be in Tucson, AZ November 15-December 21, 2015. There are even special programs such as Military Voices Initiative, September 11th Initiative, and Memory Loss Initiative. How cool is that? For more information, make sure to visit StoryCorps and have your tissues handy! Here are a couple of our favorite interviews: Sarah and Joshua Littman-Joshua, a twelve-year-old boy with Asperger’s Syndrome, interviews his mother about her experiences having him for a son and Gweneviere Mann and Yasir Salem talking about what it’s like living without a short-term memory.
We at Ridge Zeller Therapy are thankful for each and every one of our incredible clients and staff members. Here’s to an amazing November. Don’t forget to check out StoryCorps!
