As a speech-language pathology intern, you will work directly with ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist supervisors who collaborate with you and coordinate with your university supervisors to design a customized plan that meets your graduation requirements and ASHA’s standards for student externships.
Are you looking for one semester or two semester SLP externship opportunities? Your speech therapy internship may range from one semester to two semesters in length, depending on the amount of time you need to accomplish your goals!
As a Ridge Zeller Therapy extern, you will diagnose and treat a culturally and linguistically diverse pediatric and adult population in schools, client homes, a cognitive rehabilitation program and our clinic in Chandler, Arizona.
You will have the opportunity to earn clock hours in all the areas you need such as voice, pediatric and adult speech and language, hearing, and diagnostics.
Your speech pathology externship will allow you the opportunity to work with individuals with:
- autism spectrum disorders
- language disorders
- phonological delays
- cognitive delays
- traumatic brain injuries
- auditory processing disorders
- fluency disorders
- voice problems
- apraxia of speech
Additional Info About RZT’s Speech Pathology Internship Program
In your school speech therapy placement, you will learn how to provide speech therapy using a wide variety of techniques. For example, you will:
- provide one-on-one small and large group and classroom-based collaboration therapy
- write multidisciplinary evaluation team (MET) reports and individualized education plans (IEPs)
- facilitate meetings
- collaborate with parents, psychologists, teachers, occupational therapists, related service providers and students
In your adult speech therapy placement, you will:
- evaluate and treat individuals with cognitive impairments as a result of head injury or cognitive decline
- collaborate with families
As an added bonus, speech-language pathology interns often work with more than one supervisor.
This provides you the opportunity to learn a multitude of methods, philosophies and techniques that will help you to develop your own professional style as an SLP.

Once we have received your application, we will contact you to schedule an in-person or remote interview.
If you would like to visit us in sunny Arizona for an in-person interview, you may have the opportunity to shadow at least one of our therapists and your potential externship supervisor.
If selected for our program, we will collaborate with you and your university supervisor to design your experience to meet your educational needs and professional interests.
