May 2016 is ‘Better Hearing and Speech Month’ (BHSM) and RZT is celebrating with our community by offering FREE hearing and speech screenings throughout the month of May!
Sponsored by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Better Hearing & Speech Month was designed to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role of speech-language pathologists and audiologists who provide life-altering treatment to our clients.
What is a hearing and speech screening?
A hearing and speech screening helps determine if a child is developing in the area of communication according to age-appropriate developmental milestones.
It also helps to decide if additional testing is necessary to determine the possible presence of a speech-language delay.
What is involved in a hearing and speech screening?
Experienced speech-language professionals will screen your child’s receptive and expressive language and speech-sound productions. It will take approximately 15-30 minutes.
You will receive a brief write-up with recommendations about how you can enhance speech and language development at home.
Does my child need a screening?
If you have concerns with the following, your child most likely would benefit from a speech-language screening:
- Pronunciation of words
- Sentence formulation and grammar
- Direction following
- Memory tasks
- Learning letters
- Learning sounds
- Interaction with other children
- Hoarse voice
- Changing routines or activities
- Eye contact
