(Sarah Brausse, former speech therapy intern)
Our team at Ridge Zeller Therapy has designed well-rounded, personalized, paid and unpaid practicum experiences for speech-language pathology graduate students for the 2017-2018 school year and beyond.
We have communicated about this opportunity with NSSLHA members, NSSLHA chapter organizers and university supervisors across the country. We're excited to share the details of our speech pathology externship with you!
If you have a positive attitude, are professional, flexible, creative and excited to learn, then Ridge Zeller Therapy may be the right placement for you!
As a speech-language pathology intern, you will work directly with ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist supervisors who collaborate with you and coordinate with your university supervisors to design a customized plan that meets your graduation requirements and ASHA’s standards for student externships.
Are you looking for one semester or two semester SLP externship opportunities? Your speech therapy internship may range from one semester to two semesters in length, depending on the amount of time you need to accomplish your goals!
As a Ridge Zeller Therapy extern, you will diagnose and treat a culturally and linguistically diverse pediatric and adult population in schools, client homes, a cognitive rehabilitation program and our clinic in Chandler, Arizona.
You will have the opportunity to earn clock hours in all the areas you need such as voice, pediatric and adult speech and language, hearing, and diagnostics.
Your speech pathology externship will allow you the opportunity to work with individuals with:
In your school speech therapy placement, you will learn how to provide speech therapy using a wide variety of techniques. For example, you will:
In your adult speech therapy placement, you will:
As an added bonus, speech-language pathology interns often work with more than one supervisor.
This provides you the opportunity to learn a multitude of methods, philosophies and techniques that will help you to develop your own professional style as an SLP.
Once your speech-language pathology externship is complete, you will be well prepared for your first job!
Once we have received your application, we will contact you to schedule an in-person or remote interview.
If you would like to visit us in sunny Arizona for an in-person interview, you may have the opportunity to shadow at least one of our therapists and your potential externship supervisor.
If selected for our program, we will collaborate with you and your university supervisor to design your experience to meet your educational needs and professional interests.Questions?
